In a world where material possessions often dictate our lives, there comes a point when the pursuit of possessions feels hollow. As we stacked up all of our earthly belongings in one small corner of a room, we realized just how little our physical possessions in life really mattered. Through the Experiencing God Bible study, I (Carrie) felt the urge to sell everything and embark on a journey of faith and service. Roy's calling came though experiencing Costa Rica first hand. Our decision was not impulsive but rooted in a deep desire to align our lives with Jesus, echoing the teachings of His word.
The verses from 1 John urge us not to love the world or anything in it. For us, this was a call to reassess our priorities. Our lives were cluttered with belongings, commitments, and distractions. We felt a stirring within, a longing for a simpler existence focused on faith, service, and community. (1 John 2:15-17)
Selling everything was not just about parting with material possessions; it was a symbolic act of surrender. It meant releasing the grip materialism had on our lives and trusting in something greater. It was daunting, but with each item sold or donated, we felt lighter, freer. Filling a dumpster never felt so good!
Our decision to sell everything and become missionaries in Costa Rica was not merely a relocation but a spiritual awakening and an act of obedience to the call. It has begun a journey of letting go, trusting in divine guidance, and embracing a simpler, more meaningful way of life. In heeding the call, we pray for feelings not of deprivation, but of abundance—abundance in love, in service, and in a richness of faith.

I love watching the tiny house movement and this makes me think of that. I hope that I can use the things I have to raise money to support missions everywhere. Love and prayers for all of you.
